General Information:
Chennai formerly known as Madras is the capital of Tamilnadu and is India’s fourth largest city. Chennai is situated on the Coromandel coast off the Bay of Bengal and boasts of a long history from ancient South Indian empires. The city has evolved in the 20th Century as a service and manufacturing hub. The city is the capital of state Tamilnadu with a population of 4.7 million. It is often referred as Gateway of South India or the cultural capital of South India.

Climate & Weather:
Chennai has tropical climate. The city lies on thermal equator and is also on the coast, which prevents extreme variation in seasonal temperatures. The Hottest part of the year is May & June with an average temperature of 37°C and the coolest part of the year is December & January with an average temperature of 25°C.

Air:
Chennai is well connected to all major cities. Chennai International Airport is situated at Tirisulam in south Chennai. It has two terminals. Kamaraj terminal handles domestic flights across 20 destinations in India. The International Terminal names Anna Terminal connects all major International destinations.

Rail:
Chennai is connected to many cities and towns by super-fast and express trains. The city's 2 main railway stations are Egmore and Madras Central. Chennai is connected to neighbouring cities by Express trains.

Road:
Chennai is well connected to all the major cities of India by a network of highways and roads. There are many starting points in and around the city, from which interstate transport facilities operate.
